PORTLAND - The Great Northwest Athletic Conference is following suit with other nationwide leagues and announced Thursday afternoon it will suspend its spring athletic competitions until further notice due to concerns over Coronoavirus and COVID-19.
"In the interest of the safety of our student-athletes and the public at large, this suspension is effective on Friday, March 13," the league stated in one-sentence media release.
MSU Billings participates in baseball, men's and women's golf, men's and women's track and field and softball as spring sports. Though the school noted in a media release that practices will continue.
The decision comes on the heels of the NBA, NHL and Major League Soccer all suspending their seasons. The Pac-12 and Western Athletic Conference, as well as NAIA Division I and II national basketball tournaments were also suspended.
