Missoula Sentinel graduate Ashley McElmurry left her mark at the Big Ten Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday evening.
McElmurry, a sophomore at Nebraska, finished Friday's triple jump with a mark of 41 feet, 1/2 inch (12.50 meters) to take third place at the indoor meet. The meet was held at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
McElmurry's jump was a new personal best for the former Spartan, who finished with a 38-8 3/4 mark last year at the conference indoor meet to finish 12th in the triple jump. Her previous indoor personal best was 39-8.
McElmurry isn't the only Montanan who has placed at the Big Ten meet as well. Sidney native and Minnesota redshirt freshman Carter Hughes took sixth in the weight throw on Thursday, the first day of the meet. Hughes finished with a toss of 20.13 meters (66 feet, 1/2 inch) to take sixth and earn three points for the Gophers men's team.
Hughes will also throw in the men's shot put on Saturday for Minnesota. His older brother, Garrison Hughes, a junior at Nebraska, will compete in the pole vault on Saturday as well. The meet will conclude on Saturday.
