MILES CITY -- The Miles Community College volleyball team defeated Williston State in a five-set thriller at the Centra in Miles City to advance to the Region XIII semifinals this weekend in Bismarck.
Williston State got off to a fast start and grabbed a 25-17 Game 1 lead, but MCC rallied for the next two and looked on its way to a convincing victory, but Williston rallied for a 25-21 fourth game win to force game 5.
The two teams went back and forth early until MCC seized contral and finally win 15-11. Samantha Bonenberger (Billings, MT) led the charge with 39 assists and 3 aces. Mariah Simmons (Hardin, MT) had a big night at the net with 25 kills. Matilda Dietz (Manhattan, MT) chipped in 12 digs while Olivia Easton (Billings, MT) had five blocks.
MCC will face top-seeded Bismarck State in the semifinals on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. (MDT) at the Armory on Bismarck State Campus. The Pioneers enter the match 17-14 on the season. The Mystics won the regular season MonDak title and have a 25-7 record.
