Miles Community College has 5 earn all-conference basketball recognition

Three Miles Community College men's basketball players and two MCC women's basketball players gathered all-MonDak Conference honors in media releases distributed by the league office on Tuesday.

For the men, Gedeon Buzangu was selected to the first team while teammates Issac Abergut and Deondre Northey earned second-team honors.

Buzangu averaged 15 points and 12 rebounds per game during MonDak play. His 12 rebounds per game led the conference. He shot 52 percent from the field and 74 percent from the free throw line. For his career at MCC, Buzangu scored 878 points and grabbed 622 rebounds.

Abergut averaged 14 points, 10 rebounds and four assists per game in MonDak play. He was fourth in the conference in rebounding. Abergut shot 45 percent from the field and 76 percent from the free throw line in confererence. For his career at MCC, Abergut scored 794 points and grabbed 453 rebounds.

Northey averaged 16 points, five rebounds and five assists per game in MonDak play. He shot 46 percent from the field and 71 percent from the free throw line. In his Pioneer career, Northey scored 791 points.

For the women, sophomores Binta Salawu and Claire Borot were selected to the first team.

Salawu, a 5-foot-4 point guard, averaged 22 points, six rebounds and six assists per game in conference play for the Lady Pioneers. Salawu was second in the conference in scoring and assists as well as being 16th in rebounding. She was also No. 5 in the country in points scored. Salawu scored 639 points this season. She had a season-high of 44 points and recorded a triple-double on Sophomore Night.

Borot, a 5-11 forward, averaged 15 points and six rebounds per game this season in conference play. Borot was eighth in conference in scoring and 15th in rebounding. Her season-high in scoring was 27 points, and she scored 676 points in a Pioneer uniform.
