GLENDIVE -- Kolten Hitt, a 6-foot-3 wing from Dawson Community College, signed an NAIA Letter of Intent to play for Ottawa University of Arizona. The Ottawa Spirit began their athletic programs three years ago and compete in the Golden State Athletic Conference.

“I’m excited to have the opportunity to attend and play at OUAZ this upcoming year," said Hitt. "I am thankful for Dawson and all the people I have met there. I’d especially like to thank my family and my coaches for everything they have done. I will never forget all the memories and support throughout the years at DCC. Now I’m ready for my new journey and to keep doing what I love.”

The Malta, Idaho native averaged 9.3 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.9 steals and 1.4 assists while 51% from the field, 41% from 3-point range and 88% from the free throw line in 14 conference games this year for Dawson. Hitt scored a lot of clutch baskets in his two years playing for the Bucs, including the last field goal in the Region XIII Championship game with 21 seconds left on the clock and the shot clock winding down. That shot gave Dawson a 95-93 lead and they went on to win 96-95.

“Ottawa is getting a knockdown shooter and a lockdown defender who is extremely tough," said DCC men's basketball coach Joe Peterson. "He has come a long way in the past three years he has been at Dawson (he red-shirted his first year). He does so many things that help a team win basketball games. I just love the way Kolten plays the game of basketball."
