GLENDIVE -- Dawson Community College head softball coach Jim LeProwse has announced the signing of three high school players, including Columbus' Sawyer Wiggs.

"Sawyer is extremely athletic and will bring a lot of talent to our program," LeProwse said. "She is a very solid infielder and hits the ball very well. We definitely look forward to Sawyer making an immediate impact in our program next year."

Wiggs was an all-conference player in 2019. She also was the Cougars' leader in RBI and batting average.

"I am very excited that Sawyer chose Dawson to continue her athletic and academic careers. She is a great person and has very good work ethic and a drive to win. She is a perfect fit for our program," LeProwse said.

The Bucs also added Utah speedster and power-hitting Tyra Coats from Fremont High School in West Haven along with catcher Breana Hiatt from Grantsville High School in Stansbury Park.

Hiatt was a 2018 all-state honorable mention selection and first-team all-region pick. She earned first-team all-region and first-team all-state honors a year later.

"We were blown away by her talent when she came to Dawson for a visit," said LeProwse. "She is a tremendous hitter, great catcher and a very solid third baseman. Breana brings a lot of versatility to our Buccaneer program. I have no doubt that Breana will do tremendous things in her two years at Dawson. She has the perfect attitude for a college athlete and has a team first mentality and I cannot wait to see the great things that she will do at DCC."

Regarding Coats, LeProwse said, "Tyra will bring a ton of power and speed to our program here at Dawson. Tyra is a very talented outfielder and she possesses great arm strength. She has a great attitude and a great work ethic.

"Tyra will definitely make a run at our stolen base record here at Dawson in the next two years. We expect her to be in a power spot in our lineup. Tyra will make an immediate impact in our program next season."
