EAST HELENA -- The East Helena Vigilantes still have some time before they have teams in the varsity ranks of Class A, but Dec. 9 was a big day in taking a step forward to ensure their facilities will be top notch when the time comes.
During the East Helena Public Schools board meeting Monday, executives from Stockman Bank donated $57,000 to the district to buy a state-of-the-art video board for the East Helena athletic field. The donation will be used for the scoreboard, but East Helena Public Schools Superintendent Ron Whitmoyer told MTN Sports that the donation will allow them to provide more opportunities inside the classroom.
"The cool thing about this is, these funds are saving us to allow for other programs, for us to allow for classroom activities so that we're not spending it on a video screen -- we're spending it on kids," Whitmoyer said prior to the meeting.
Whitmoyer said the field is slated to be completed prior to the beginning of the 2020-21 school year.
