BUTTE — The last time the Butte High Bulldogs finished the regular season undefeated was 1991 and tonight 28 years later, history is on the verge of repeating itself. All that stands in Butte’s way are the Missoula Hellgate Knights. And as a sellout crowd is expected for tonight's game, MTN Sports' caught up with head coach Arie Grey to talk about how much the community support has meant all season long.
“Well you look at it we have such a great community. Butte is such a special place and you really have to live here to understand and respect that," Grey said. "Because they're the greatest fans in the world, they’re the most passionate, the most supportive.”
And while the Bulldog faithful are excited for their chance to witness history. It’s the coaches and players who are more excited to play under the lights in front of their fans.
“We know they’re going to bring their A game and we’ve got to do the same," Grey adds. "And to give back to them. A lot of our kids go around town and the community has such great support and cheering them on. So for us to give back to them a bit, and really that’s what Friday night is this week is giving back to our community a little bit. Let them know that the support they’re giving and we believe it in and we love it. “
And there’s no other city coach Grey and the rest of the Bulldogs would want to represent.
“I look and have so much pride you know living here, and being a part of this. And seeing the energy, the buzz and all that stuff is just awesome," he adds. "And kudos to our community for being great and we’re very fortunate and very lucky to have them on our side.”
