BUTTE — It may be one the most highly anticipated games in the early part of the 2019 football season. Helena High and Butte High will clash at the historic Naranche Stadium Friday at 7 p.m.
What makes this game so important early on is that it will be both teams' first conference games of the season. Both the Bengals and the Bulldogs defeated Great Falls CMR and Belgrade in their first two non-conference games of the year. So now they meet putting their perfect records on the line.
Butte head coach Arie Grey knows exactly what's at stake but has seen his guys continue to get better and better every day, so he knows and fully expects his guys to go out and compete and defend their home turf.
“You look at it, Helena High is a good team and they do some nice things in all three phases of the game. So it’s a great challenge for us," Grey said. "We feel fortunate to be able to play them at our place, and I think our kids are excited for the opportunity. I think they understand now we’re in conference play. You know, that’s kind of been weird to have two non-conference games, so really technically we're 0-0. So now it’s time to start doing what we need to do and understanding we can control our destiny by getting better every day.”
