The final weekend of the 8-Man football regular season lacked drama for the most part.
A number of playoff seeds were already determined, but there were still a few teams fighting for playoff spots on Friday. Two of those teams were in the 8-Man West, where St. Ignatius and Charlo played a win-and-in game that lived up to the billings.
The host Vikings built leads of 12-0 and 20-6 in the first half, but St. Ignatius rallied for the 32-26 win to clinch the West's No. 4 seed for the state playoffs. The Bulldogs scored 26 unanswered points in the second half to stun Charlo and end the Vikings' season. Earlier in the week, Alberton-Superior secured the West's third seed when its game with Troy was canceled. Drummond-Philipsburg and Thompson Falls, who are both undefeated, will be the Nos. 1 and 2 seeds. Drummond-Philipsburg plays Victor on Saturday and with a win clinches the No. 1 seed.
Cascade and Chinook were also playing a do-or-die game on Friday. Both teams lost in the first round of the 8-Man North intra-division playoffs last week, sending them into a matchup to determine the league's fifth and final playoff spot. Cascade notched the 40-38 win on Friday, with its defense keeping the Sugarbeeters at bay late in the fourth quarter to secure the win.
Westby-Grenora and Ekalaka had already clinched playoff berths entering Friday's head-to-head matchup, but the Thunder's 34-8 win helped their seeding. Westby-Grenora, in its first season playing 8-Man football, will likely be the East's No. 3 seed, depending on the outcome of Fairview's game against Plentywood this weekend. Scobey locked up the East's No. 1 seed with a 50-12 win over Culbertson on Thursday.
