BOZEMAN — Former Montana State starting quarterback Chris Murray is no longer on the Bobcats’ football team, MTN Sports confirmed on Friday.

Murray missed the entire 2018 season due to an academic suspension. He then returned to the team during spring practices on weekends with the intent to play in the 2019 season. However, the Montana State athletics department told MTN Sports that Murray did not regain his academic eligibility. In 2017, Murray threw for 1,597 yards and rushed for another 1,124 yards. He became the first Bobcat quarterback to rush for more than 1,000 yards in a season.

MTN Sports also confirmed that running back Tyrel Burgess is also no longer on the team due to academic reasons. Jalen Cole is also not listed on the roster, but he is still in the program. The cornerback will be reinstated on the team once he has been given medical clearance.
