Montana State Bobcats’ Duncan Hamilton places 33rd in NCAA West Prelim 3,000-meter steeplechase

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Montana State’s Duncan Hamilton completed his first appearance at the NCAA West Preliminary Round on Friday finishing in 33rd place in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase at Sacramento State’s Hornet Stadium.

The Bobcat freshman ran in the second heat of the event and took 11th among runners in his race. He crossed the line in a time of 9 minutes, 4 seconds. The mark was Hamilton’s second fastest of his career. His best of 9:01.36 is the 10th fastest in MSU history. His 33rd-place showing was 15 spots higher than his seeded entry into the regional meet.

Hamilton’s race concluded the Bobcat track and field team’s 2019 outdoor season. Montana State’s women’s squad previously took fifth at the Big Sky Conference Outdoor Championships in Missoula on May 11, while the men’s team finished seventh.
