BOZEMAN — The Montana State women’s basketball team fell to Northern Colorado 84-73 on Monday night.

After a promising win over the Montana Grizzlies on Saturday, the tables turned for the Bobcats against the Bears in Shroyer Gymnasium on Monday night. The Bobcats had to work off of their deep bench after Martha Kuderer did not play and Claire Lundberg fell to injury in the third quarter.

One of the biggest challenges for the Cats Monday night was stopping UNC’s Savannah Smith, who had 37 points.

“The big thing that’s really hurting us on the defensive end is just having some big-time performances,” MSU head coach Tricia Binford said. “We had that certainly again (Monday) with Savannah Smith. We just could not find ways to get her stops, so we’re going to have to do a much better job of the things we need to manage. … Everything has to start with our defense. We just have to be a lot more solid on that end of the floor.”
