OGDEN, Utah – Montana State’s track and field team opened its indoor season this past Saturday by hosting the Bobcat Preview inside Worthington Arena. One of its own has already been recognized for her performance at the meet.

Senior Kelsi Lasota was named the Big Sky Conference Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday, Dec. 4. Lasota was one of four Big Sky competitors that earned weekly accolades.

Lasota completed the fastest time in the 5,000-meter run at the Bobcat Preview and nearly topped a lifetime best in the event. Lasota finished the race in a time of 17 mintues, 55.66 second, which converted to 16:40.89 due to track size and altitude, was less than a second away from her personal best. Lasota’s lifetime best in the 5,000 is currently second in program history.

Her converted time at the Bobcat Preview is the fastest in the Big Sky Conference after the first weekend of competition of the season and is the 31st best in Division I track.

The Estes Park, Colo., native completed a stellar cross country career for the Bobcats this fall. Lasota recorded back-to-back all-conference honors by earning a silver medal at the Big Sky Championship in Sacramento on Oct. 27. Lasota finished second in the 3,000 and fourth in the 5,000 at last year’s indoor track and field conference meet. She placed first in the 5,000 at the 2018 Big Sky Outdoor Championship in May and second in the 10,000.
