Montana’s Reggie Tilleman finalist for STATS FCS Doris Robinson Scholar-Athlete Award

MISSOULA – University of Montana senior Reggie Tilleman has once again been recognized as an outstanding all-around student-athlete, becoming the Big Sky Conference’s only finalist for the 2018 STATS FCS Doris Robinson Scholar-Athlete Award, STATS announced Wednesday.

Tilleman is one of 13 finalists for the award named after the wife of legendary Grambling State coach Eddie Robinson, presented annually to an FCS student-athlete who excels not only in the classroom, but in the community and beyond.

The winner of the Doris Robinson Scholar-Athlete Award will be announced on Monday, Dec. 10, and will be invited to Frisco, Texas, on Jan. 4 to celebrate the achievement at the 32nd Annual STATS FCS Awards Banquet on the eve of the national championship game.

This is the second major academic honor for Tilleman in recent weeks, having been named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District 7 first team in mid-November, which him in the running to be named Academic All-America. The former walk-on turned-team captain, was one of just 12 players from the Big Sky Conference to earn Academic All-District Honors.

A native of Genesee, Idaho, Tilleman is already a graduate of Montana’s College of Business, earning a bachelors degree in business administration and finance in the spring of 2018 with magna cum laude honors. A two-time Academic All-Big Sky selection, he is now pursuing an MBA while maintaining a 3.90 GPA.

Tilleman is also a two-time recipient of Montana’s Tony Barbour Award, given annually to the player that “best exemplifies Grizzly football,” earning the honor in 2017 and 18.

On the field, Tilleman started every game at defensive end his senior season and posted one of the best games of his career at Idaho where he registered five tackles, one sack, and 2.5 TFLs in front of his home-town crowd. He played in 27 games and logged a total of 55 tackles, 7.5 TFLs, 2.5 sacks, and a pass deflections throughout his career.

As an active member of Montana’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), Tilleman participates in various community service projects and has also worked several youth football camps over the summer.

Earlier this fall, Tilleman became one of just three semifinalists from the Big Sky Conference for the William V. Campbell Trophy, often referred to as the “Academic Heisman.”

Tilleman opened the 2018 season by representing the team at the 2018 Big Sky media days in Spokane.
