MISSOULA – The wait is over. No more scrimmages, no more exhibitions games, Montana basketball is officially back Friday.

The Grizzlies open their highly anticipated men’s basketball season at home against another 2018 NCAA Tournament team and conference favorite, the Georgia State Panthers.

Montana compiled one of the best seasons in program history last year, winning the Big Sky Conference and giving Michigan a run for its money in the first round of the tournament. Now, the Grizzlies bring back almost everybody who played a role on that squad.

Coach Travis DeCuire feels his team needs to to get hot from outside if it wants to get off on the right foot.

“It’s always good to get off to a good start offensively from 3,” DeCuire said. “I think the most important thing to us is defending the 3, and if we’re making them and our opponent isn‘t, then there’s your big difference, and that’s where we make runs. But we want to be able to defend it every night, even when it’s not going in for us we have a chance to win.”
