Montana Western dominates second night at Montana State Spring Rodeo

BOZEMAN – The Montana State Bobcats may have defended their home turf in the first night of their spring rodeo, but Montana Western claimed the second night hands down.

The Bulldogs Tristan Hansen scored an event-best 76 points, in goat tying UMW’s Marlee Mussman posted a night-best 7.5 seconds. In breakaway roping, Lorrie Ann Smith, Miss Rodeo Hawaii, tied with Bulldog Darby Yeager with a 3.1 second run to push both of them into the championship round on Saturday. More wins continued for the Western as Callie Wollenburg scorched through the barrel racing portion of the night in 15.29 seconds. And finally in bull riding, Ruger Piva ended the night with an exclamation mark as he posted a rodeo’s best 82 points.

Bobcat Will Powell enterd into second place in steer wrestling with a 6.7 second ride. And Tyler Turco, from the University of Montana and one of the best saddle bronc riders in the Big Sky region, sits in first with 74 points.
