BOZEMAN – Montana State point guard Hannah Caudill could shatter Bobcat history Thursday against North Dakota.
The senior is two assists away from becoming the all-time assists leader in Bobcat women’s basketball history. The Spokane native has 442 career assists, one shy of the record set by Vicki Heeber-Carle (443) set in 1984. What makes it more impressive is that she has only been a starter for the last two years.
“When you describe players and their strengths, i think the number one thing that you would describe Hannah is an assist specialist. I mean she just makes players look good when she’s on the floor and she’s always been an incredible passer,” said head coach Tricia Binford.
Binford said she has coached very few players like Caudill, who have such a high basketball IQ and understanding of the game. On the switch to the motion offense, Caudill went from a leading scorer to a more supportive role. But the she didn’t frown upon the change, she embraced it to elevate her team.
“With Hannah, it’s always about ‘how does she make others on the floor better,’ it’s never been about her,” said Binford. “I think that’s what makes her an assist leader and an assist record-holder. It’s the most selfless thing you can do on the court is create an opportunity for somebody else. It’s going to be a well deserved honor.”
Caudill will surely have her name rise to the top of the all-time assists list by the end of her Bobcat career and she has a chance to do it at home Thursday against the Fighting Hawks.
