FRENCHTOWN – The PGA Junior League is a national league run by the PGA of America. There are around 40 kids in the Missoula area registered and six leagues in western Montana spanning across Polson, Kalispell, Great Falls Helena, Butte and Missoula.

On Thursday, King Ranch Golf Course in Frenchtown hosted one of the many tournaments that are played throughout the year.

King Ranch PGA professional Tim Bakker says the program is a great opportunity to really get kids passionate about the game, not just swinging a club.

“We have all run golf camps and introduced the kids to the game, but this gets them on the golf course once a week and playing holes, playing matches, playing against other kids. They play as a two-person scramble and it allows them their first experience on golf courses and playing a competitive match. It will get them ready to be playing golf on their own and maybe in the future, as they get a little older, playing more individual tournaments,” said Bakker.
