BELGRADE – Belgrade High School held a special event for all of its state champions on Wednesday afternoon.

The Panther athletes who won championships in the winter and spring were treated to a firetruck ride around town. Aboard the truck was the softball team, back-to-back pole vaulting champion Alysa Henry, Belgrade wrestler John Mears, and tennis doubles team Lilly Riddick and Brooke Gilbertson, who won the first-ever state crown in girls doubles in Panther history.

Even the Belgrade ProStart cooking team, which won a state title and then competed in nationals, was honored on the ride.

“I really love my team, overall. They’re such a great group of girls,” said junior Haylee Curry, who plays on the softball team. “They’re so nice and kind and helpful and I feel like this year we really just bonded overall with the win.”

The softball team continues to prove its dominance in Class A, winning its second consecutive state crown last weekend.
